School Counts! Part of the Learn.Do.Earn Student Achievement System
Young people need to know that there is a correlation between working hard in school and finding a job - whether that job is in a Fortune 500 company or in the stockroom of a local retail store. They need to know that attendance, punctuality, attitude, and effort count and that nothing succeeds like hard work. Employers can reinforce these messages by asking young adult job applicants for their School Counts! Certificate.
School Counts! Is a voluntary high school program in which students have the opportunity to earn a School Counts Certificate annually; this Certificate can be presented to employers when applying for an entry-level job.
The Certificate verifies that students have:
- achieved a 95% attendance and punctuality rate
- obtained a ‘C’ or better in each course
- completed school in 8 consecutive semesters (or are on time and on target for graduation)
- taken more than the minimum number of credits required for graduation
SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS FOR SCHOOL COUNTS CERTIFICATE HOLDERS
South Jersey Industries has established a Foundation that will collect funds for college scholarships to Atlantic Cape for Cape May County & Atlantic County students who have earned the School Counts Certificate. Students planning to attend Atlantic Cape Community College may complete the Scholarship Package.
SCHOOL COUNTS STUDENTS AT ATLANTIC CAPE RECEIVE
Atlantic Cape offers the following in support of the School Counts program in Atlantic and Cape May County.
- School Counts applicants will be strong candidates for the ACCESS scholarship funds through the Atlantic Cape Foundation and the Atlantic Cape Leadership program with training provided by the college's Counseling & Support Services department.
- A specific counselor/advisor will be assigned to School Counts applicants.
- $2,000 for full-time students, $1,000 for part-time students.
TO RECEIVE YOUR SCHOOL COUNTS SCHOLARSHIP
Provide the documentation indicated on the “Submission Cover Sheet” and either mail or drop off at any Atlantic Cape Community College campus addressed to:
